Immeasurable...

I was trapped by the word “distance” almost 20 years before.
And started this kind of blog to memorize for myself.
“Distancology” is half joke but half serious for me.

But sometimes we have to admit, there are things we cannot measure......

- Death
- One-sided love
- Conflict
- Dream

Or etc.

Previously I idiotically imagined such “Distancology” can suggest a hint or help people to solve problems in their lives. Something like a methodology or even a Philosofy.

But the real issues in a life are far beyond “distance”.

Still, or rather, that’s why, I would like to continue silly blog!

Meaning of discussing about Distance?

Is any meaning or merit in discussing about Distance?

Reason I started writing the blog from view point of distance is just because I am not good at measuring distance in life.

But I imagine, we who are living in the world, where global economy violently unites a whole world in a second, while on the other hand a lot of nationalism is arising in each area of the world.

In such a condition, how to measure the world might be a key to explore the world.
To measure distance between 2 objects in front of oneself and to measure distance from oneself to the objects, both.

And what kind of stories in the Distance itself we can find out might be also a key to enjoy the life.
Some kind of distance in real life never disapeare unfortunately, however, (or rather) that's why we can enjoy the life.

As a trial, some memos are trying to analyse Movie, Music or whatever from the view point of Distance.
From my view, impressive movies contain a lot of Distance in different phases which gives the movies richness.
And the most impressive ones sometimes suggest unmeasurable Distance.
Unmeasurable means "unable to describe in text" but those great movie shows or embrace that unmeasurable Distance in a picture, that is the real pleasure of a movie, I believe.

It might be called composition of plots or the theme, I guess. If we analyse movies every time from the view poin of Distance, it would be boring and spoil the great movies.
But it may give us a hint to our real life.

Achilles cannot catch up Tortoise forever. This famous story often reminds me dullness of discussing about "distance".

Not only because it is directly the story which mention about distance, but also because it suggests "if you stick to some distance from the very narrow view point, you miss something much more important."

To point out, there are many distances between something and another, that is too much easy. Rather, to find out unusual crevasse in the world which seems very usual at a glance, that's much more important.

Actually we are all living in a bit dull world. It is not meaningless even if Distancology is full of dullness. Rather, starting from dullness is required manner for a person like me who is in a way awkward at living!?

Of course basic meaning of Distance is considered usually as of one dimensional Length.
But in here, I would like to expand the meaning.

Anything which exists in between two things or events.

Area
Volume

Tragedy

Tear

Emotion (Admiration, Hate, Love, Hope, Despair, ...... so many)

Distance in Movie

Sometimes we meet a movie which strongly moves us, touches our hearts and makes us think so much deep and long.

Why?

Let's set up a hypothesis as below.

• Our life is full of distance in various meaning and that is the secret of life.
• And a kind of excellent movie luckily succeed to disclose the distance hidden in our lives in a flat screen.
• That's why we are moved.

From that kind of view point of Distance, let me try some analysis on some individual movies in this Distancology.

Purpose is not to criticize Movies in here, but to think about Distance in our lives which is full of mysterious events.

By the way, screen in a theater is very flat. And a frame in a film is also flat image.
Technically we can say movie is an art of flatness which will not allow any distance in that flatness, though it includes continuous distance of 1/24 seconds which is an interval of frames.

This sounds very optimistic and full of suggestions!

Distance is never the buffer zone to separate the world. Totally opposite. It is actually possibility of Hope for new events!
